RAILWAY SILENCES
THE RED RAIL OF DESTINY
A landmark of the modern world, the train invites us to migratory journeys, crossing the network of tracks, tunnels, bridges and stations, which are linked to the red rail of destiny between Switzerland and Chile, between the mountains that speak to each other in silence.
The railway stations, empty of passengers, are industrial places, imbued with mystery and solitude, illusions, nostalgia, sadness, poetic and erotic fantasies, journeys of daydreams.
Images that speak of the historical abandonment that the port city of Valparaiso has experienced and the beauty of the abandonment that ties it like a rope adrift in the challenging and brutal iconographic sea.
The advent of cinema, experimental videos, artistic and literary avant-gardes and the tradition of photographers enrich the metaphor of railway history, exploring new approaches to more than a century and a half of the first experiences of the train during the 19th century up to current uses.
